Welcome back to another face mask Friday. Friday a day that most look forward to, the end of a working week, the beginning to the weekend and this one is a long one as well. With everything going on in the world right now, we really need to look after ourselves. Mentally and physically. We look after our teeth, eyes and ears so why not our face and skin as well? Your face is the only thing on show 24/7. Hence why I believe skincare is really important and it’s not too late to start a skincare routine, or early in some peoples cases.
This week’s mask that I will be reviewing is Revolution’s Stressed Mood Calming Overnight mask. Overnight masks are good for everyone but for people who state they don’t have enough time for a proper skincare routine. I mean it’s as it say it is, overnight. Apply it and off you go for your nights sleep. With everything going on in the world, a lot of people are or can be stressed more than ever. The daily worry and pressure to do go, or if you are struggling with homeschooling or working from home. Both equally as stressful. Something to help the stress is really needed!
As I have mentioned in my other reviews, your skin particularly under your eyes shows everything. If you aren’t well, or you are stressed anything. Nothing like a good night of beauty sleep and an overnight mask to improve it! This overnight mask is an ultra-hydrating mask, that helps to calm and nourish the skin, leaving it feeling fresh and revitalised. Enriched with cannabis sativa oil to soothe, Korean red ginseng to replenish, and moonstone to invigorate. A vegan and cruelty free mask which is a huge thing to be for me!
The packaging is really simple, but elegant. Simply white and fuchsia pink and the writing on the cardboard box. When opening the box, inside the lid states “ Hair up, makeup off, face mask on.” That is exactly it though when it comes to face masks. You don’t ever want your hair in the way and it would be pointless to do a mask with a full face of makeup on. What would be the point? Ok mascara and eyeliner is ok but foundation and that would be a crazy waste of time. Added efforts such as the glass container makes it even better. Branding on the glass pot is pretty similar to the box. Directions are on the side of the box.
With sleep masks or overnight ones, there isn’t much to do with them. Start with a dry face, open the mask and put it on. Make sure to take your medication, brush your teeth etc before applying the mask. Apply and get into bed. Really that simple. Do read the directions incase you have to wash off in the morning or occasionally your face needs to be slightly damp.
Tonight’s mask asks for a clean, dry, cleansed face. Apply then leave on overnight. Really simple. I opened the pot and expected the moisturiser looking mask to be a lot thicker and less runny. The actually look and consistency of this mask is like shampoo or conditioner. If you held the pot on a tilt it could easily just run out.
I applied an even layer over my face and to look at in the mirror looked like I had just used my night cream, if even that and I was off to bed. The mask, though off white in colour, applies clear. It’s so weird to go to bed thinking will this get on the covers? Then I just had that in my mind for a while before I eventually nodded off.
Overnight masks are usually hydrating and moisturising mask. So really all that happens is the goodness from the mask absorbs in overnight. Nothing is felt or done other than closing your eyes and sleeping for the night. This mask though, I felt like my face was burning and tingly. Not overly itchy but weird. The sort where you lay there and think omg am I having an allergic reaction to this or what.
I didn’t know what to do at that point but I laid for a little while longer and I actually fell asleep. So the mask must just start off that way and it adds some effect. Because my face isn’t red or blotchy today. No rash or nothing.
My face today felt no different to what it did yesterday really. It’s not smoother or softer. The only thing I can say to you is that my day was probably the most productive I have been all week and I was calmer and relaxed more. Whether that is the masks doing or what I can’t tell you but I feel less stressed.
Really I suppose I have to be thankful and grateful that I didn’t wake up with an allergic reaction. And for the fact that really I have felt no change to my skin and the only change is that I have felt less stressed in myself and more productive. Who knows what that means.
This overnight mask retails at £8, which for the glass pot, the amount you get works out to be really cheap. But I would expect more from this unfortunately than what it has done. There are a lot of ways to destress that cost less than £8. But I guess if your skin is looking more tired, run down and stressed then you would need something like this.
Personally I won’t be using this again, for the fact that I haven’t seen any changes in my skin. But also for the reaction I had after I put it on and that isn’t a way to sooth the face. By burning up, boiling hot and irritating the skin a little. Yes I do have slightly sensitive skin but still a calming, de-stressing mask should be as it says calming.
With the many overnight sleep masks I have tried and use regularly I won’t be recommending this one! I really don’t think that my calm productive day is all down to this mask. Maybe a little but not for everything.
What is your go to overnight mask at the minute?
